What's going on in Healthy Living
This year in Healthy Living we will be focused on the interconnectivity of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. We will be doing a wide range of projects and assignments that will put a focus on the relationship between each element of our health that make up our overall "healthy being".
Healthy Eating:
What is healthy eating? What is organic? How do I read food labels? Is fat bad for me?
These are all questions that many of us have every day. The truth is, it's hard to know exactly what is healthy and good for us and what is bad. Sometimes, there's even misinformation that exists. During this unit, we will learn about what all of this means and answer the questions that you may have. We will also look at the recently updated Canada Food Guide and so much more. Stay tuned for everything this will include! |
Coming Soon:
Relationship Skit
Relationships come in all forms. They can be a relationship between friends, your parents, siblings or even coaches. Not all relationships are "romantic" relationships. However, all relationships tend to fall into three different categories: healthy, unhealthy and abusive.
During this unit, you'll be taking a deep dive into one of the three times. You, along with your group, will create a script which demonstrates your assigned type of relationship. Not only will you be writing the script but you're going to be getting your acting on in front of the class! Break a leg! |
Depression, Anxiety & Your Mental Health
Throughout this unit we will be learning of the various mental health issues which affect us as people and, at the end of it, creating a pamphlet to demonstrate the understanding of either depression or anxiety.
Remember: If you need support, there are always people there who are willing to help and listen. It's okay to not be okay, it's not okay to stay not okay. Contact for Support |
Over the last two years the world has changed a lot. The landscape of what is "normal" has shifted more than we could ever have imagined. Throughout this time, nothing has been more taxed than our health care system.
One area of the health care system which has kind of flown under the radar is mental health. Issues that affect our mental health are on the rise, stresses are at an all time high and wait times for support are long. Of the mental health issues on the rise, Anxiety & Depression have been at the top of the list. |
Substance Misuse Project
Drugs and substances are some of the most addictive things which we people can encounter. They can take control of our daily lives and completely prevent us from acting in any normal way.
The abuse of substances is certainly something which is on the rise in society and is a huge concern for young people everywhere, in particular, vaping. In this unit we will be taking a deep dive into understanding the addictive nature of a variety of substances and the interactions that it has with the body and mind. We will be looking at the short and long term effects as well as, how to seek out help if yourself or a loved one is involved in drug addiction. The unit will conclude with a project and presentation. |
